TJEd Foundations Syllabus
TJEd Foundations is a class that will help you gain a firm understanding of the basic principles of TJED and apply them in your home. It is based on the 7 Keys of Great Teaching, The Leadership Education Continuum by Diann Jeppson (found in the back of the old edition of Phases of Learning, and The Parenting Pyramid by The Arbinger Institute.
For this project it is recommended that you get all the books you need at the beginning of the year so that you have them ready to go.

- Come prepared to discuss the Leadership Education Continuum
- Study and discuss Job #1 Relationships- Read the article by Arbinger Institute Parenting Pyramid
- Write a paper about one aspect of your relationships that you can start to improve upon.
- Set a goal and report it to the class.
- Study Job#2- Inspiring Environment
- Study the 7 Keys. Here are some resources:

- Create a system for your family that you really need and carry it out over the next month
- Share your system with the group
- Continue Job #2-Inspiring Environment
- Choose one of the following books to read: Children of the Promise (Rumors of War), Understood Betsy, Little Britches, or Laddie
- Read with at least one of the following mentor prompts:
- What do I need to do to create a more inspiring environment in my home?
- What systems are the characters using in this book? Are they effective or not?
- What are the characters in this book being exposed to and is it beneficial to them?
- Fine tune/continue working on the system you created for your family, or build upon it with another system for your family that you really need.
February: Study Job #3- Respond Effectively
- Study a phase that one of your children or youth is in where you really need to understand how your child is learning and what they need in that phase. Consider Erikson’s and Piaget’s charts on Stages and Psychosocial development in Chapter 1 of The Phases of Learning to see what your work may be in renegotiating stages or phases in their development.
- Blank page mentor that child or youth, seeking ways you can respond better to your kids in those phases.
- Set a goal to report on at the next meeting
- Choose one of the following books to read: Little Women, The Chosen, Little Men, Cheaper By the Dozen
- Consider the following prompt: “What wins have I seen so far in the way I have responded to my children effectively? How can I increase my ability to respond effectively?”
- Be prepared to report on your goals from last month
- Write a paper on "Why am I choosing to engage in Leadership Education? What is the ultimate result that I want to achieve? What can I do right now to help myself and my family along this path?”
- Discuss The Freedom Agreement and your papers with the group.
