TNLA Youth Classes
Here at Thomas Nelson Leadership Academy we pursue a Leadership Education model. The mentors are trained using Leadership Education methods. Youth projects are classes for youth of approximate ages 11-16.
Practice Scholar (appx. ages 11-13)
In the Practice Scholar classes we inspire youth to sample Scholarly studies. The classes are geared in such a way to personalize the education of each youth as they take another step in their Leadership Education.
Georgics
This year-long youth project teaches concepts to future independent citizens and entrepreneurs studying Real Estate Ownership, Community Stewardship, Entrepreneurship, Thrift, Providence, Mission, Health, Self-Validation and more through hands-on experiences, simulations, classics and group projects. Students learn teamwork and apply skills in gardening and cooking labs.

Battle With the Bard
The objective of Battle With the Bard is to motivate the scholar to do the hard work of learning through: inspiring mentors, positive peer pressure, a culminating activity, outward motivations to choose (competitions and rewards), completing the project, and by planting seeds of determination to do hard work.

Project Scholar (appx. ages 13-15)
In Project Scholar classes the youth are inspired to pursue the topic in a personal and fulfilling way. With the youth fully in Scholar Phase, they are expected to come to class prepared in a way that they feel good about. We use the class time to have as much inspirational moments to help refine and develop each individual's genius and purpose as possible.

In this session the students will spend time studying different math, technology and science concepts such as geometry, algebra, finances, physics, chemistry, biology, robotics and simple machines. Focus will be on reading books related to math, technology and the sciences, discussing, simulations, and projects in a highly hands on environment.

Self Directed Scholar (appx. ages 15-17)
Mentors, parents, and youth work together to create an atmosphere of great learning and inspiration for each individual student. The mentors seek to have the greatest number of transformational moments during class time using a mix of the different environments of learning.

This class involves the skill of canyoneering parallel to the principles of leadership. Students will learn about the leadership qualities of great people in history. Discussion, reading and writing will all be ways that they will learn and internalize these skills. The capstone of the course is a field trip to a canyon where the scholars will utilize the technical and leadership skills they have learned to descend a technical canyon.
